I believe that Bloom’s taxonomy is a reliable, but very
basic framework for the goals that need to be met in a classroom. I do not
think that it is the “perfect” guideline for classroom curriculum and
instruction, because there is no one specific way to do things. Every classroom
is going to be different: there are going to be different teaching styles and
different learners and different curriculums set forth by different school
districts. For me to say that I am going to teach my students only one method
of how to add numbers is just ridiculous. Different students are going to need
to learn different methods so they can fully understand. I think that a
combination of Bloom’s original taxonomy with Andrew Churches’ revised
“digital” taxonomy would be the best framework to follow in a classroom because
it follows not only the traditional ideas of classroom goals but implements
various forms of new technology that students can use in their studies within
each set of goals. I do not feel that educators should completely get rid of
the original framework and adopt the newer digital framework, but should
instead identify the key areas of each framework and combine those together.
